Advisory services

Three areas. One approach.

Each service begins with a document review and produces a written assessment of your position. The fee is fixed and stated before we begin.

How the services work

What each service includes, and what it does not.

Each of the three services described below covers the initial assessment stage — the review of documents, the written position assessment, cost estimates for each available route, and a recommendation. What happens after the assessment depends on what you decide to do.

If you wish to continue — to negotiate, mediate, file, or pursue any other route — we discuss that separately, once the assessment is complete. There is no assumption that the instruction continues beyond the assessment stage.

Language availability is confirmed at the start of each matter. Mixed-language matters — where documents are in Japanese but communication is preferred in English — are handled without separate translation arrangements.

Service 01

Commercial Dispute Advisory

For companies in disagreement with a supplier, customer or partner — where the question is whether to pursue the matter and how. The assessment begins from the contract and correspondence, not from one party's account of events.

Position statement

You decide

Whether to negotiate, mediate, pursue a formal claim, or settle. Whether the relationship is worth preserving. How much you are willing to spend.

We assess

Your legal position based on the documents. The strength of each party's case as it stands. The likely cost and duration of each route.

— Written position assessment stating strengths and weaknesses

— Options: negotiation, mediation, formal proceedings

— Cost estimate per route

— Recommendation included

— Initial assessment: two to three weeks

— Suited to: businesses wanting a clear view before deciding how far to take a matter

Assessment fee

¥39,000

Service 02

Intellectual Property Protection

For product companies, studios and consumer brands protecting trade marks, designs, trade secrets and copyright in commercial materials. The assessment begins with a search before any application is filed — to understand what protection is and is not available before committing to a registration.

Position statement

You decide

Whether to apply for registration. Which name, mark or design to protect. How to respond if infringement is observed.

We assess

Availability of the mark or name. Registration strategy and route. What registration does and does not prevent in practice.

— Search report before any application is filed

— Explanation of what registration does and does not prevent

— Renewal calendar covering registered rights

— Licensing terms reviewed where relevant

— Timeline depends on registration route

— Suited to: companies adopting a new name, mark or design; those observing possible infringement

Assessment fee

¥35,000

Service 03

Lease and Tenancy Advice

For landlords and tenants of commercial and residential premises. Matters covered include lease negotiation, renewal terms, rent revision, restoration obligations at the end of a term, and the notice requirements that apply in each situation.

Position statement

You decide

Whether to negotiate the lease terms or accept them as offered. Whether to challenge a restoration claim. Whether to serve notice or respond to one.

We assess

What the lease requires, and what it permits. The obligations that apply at the end of the term. Whether a notice has been served correctly.

— Plain summary of obligations at end of term

— Deposit and restoration provisions explained

— Correspondence drafted where preferred

— Lease negotiation and renewal terms reviewed

— Two to four weeks for review; longer where negotiation is involved

— Suited to: small businesses taking premises; private owners letting property

Assessment fee

¥27,000

Across all services

What every assessment includes.

Written assessment

A document you receive, keep and can share — not a verbal summary of a meeting.

Strengths and weaknesses

Both sides of the position are stated. The assessment is not useful otherwise.

Cost per route

Each available option comes with an estimate — so the choice can be made in context.

A recommendation

We state what we would suggest — including if the suggestion is to settle or take no action.

Fees

Fixed fees for the assessment stage.

These fees cover the initial assessment only. If you wish to continue — to negotiate, mediate or pursue proceedings — costs for those stages are discussed separately, after the assessment is complete.

Service What is covered Typical timeline Assessment fee
Commercial Dispute Position assessment, options with cost estimates, recommendation 2–3 weeks ¥39,000
Intellectual Property Search report, registration strategy, what protection covers, renewal calendar Varies by route ¥35,000
Lease & Tenancy Obligations summary, restoration and deposit review, correspondence drafted if needed 2–4 weeks ¥27,000

All fees are in Japanese yen and cover the initial assessment stage only. No additional charges apply at the assessment stage beyond the stated fee.
